Handgun Safety Learn how to safely use a handgun for home & personal defense. Receive a certificate that the sheriff’s office will accept for Oregon’s CHL—Concealed Handgun License. The first orientation class will be conducted via ZOOM and prepares you for an online curriculum which covers how to select a handgun, safety rules, operation of different types of handguns, ammo selection, maintenance, safe storage, stance and grip, legal considerations, holsters and other concealment options, and options for continued education. The practical portion of this course involves a trip to a local gun club at which we start with plastic training guns, then pellet guns, then 22LR handguns (minimal recoil), and then on to 9MM, the most popular ammo. Priorities are: 1. SAFETY, 2. CONFIDENCE, 3. COMMITMENT TO CONTINUED LEARNING. The instructor is NRA-certified to teach Basic Pistol, is an NRA Chief Safety Range Officer, and has been teaching handgun safety for over 25 years. Non-lethal self-defense options such as pepper spray are also covered. No discounts or waivers.
